Self-Esteem & Imposter Syndrome Therapy in Victoria, BC

Therapy for the belief underneath the self-doubt — not another round of confidence-building.

The résumé isn't reaching the feeling

By any external measure, you're doing well. The career is real. The competence is real. Other people would trade places with you.

And some part of you is certain it's a matter of time before you're found out.

You've tried outrunning it — the next credential, the next win, the next round of proof. The proof arrives. The feeling doesn't update. Many of the people I see with this are founders, physicians, lawyers, senior leaders — the more capable the person, the more elaborate the case they've built against themselves.

Here's why the evidence never lands. What's driving this isn't a confidence deficit:

  • Insecurity — a core belief, formed early, that you're not enough. It predates the evidence, which is why evidence doesn't touch it.
  • Shame-based identity — the sense that the flaw is you, not something you did.
  • Conditional worth — early relationships where value had to be earned, performed, or was simply unavailable.

These were encoded before you could argue with them. That's why you can know you're competent and still feel like a fraud: the knowing and the feeling are stored in different systems, and only one of them is reading your résumé.

How this work is different

Standard self-esteem work runs on affirmations and evidence-gathering. It's prosecution-by-fact against a belief that was never based on facts. The belief always wins on appeal.

I work at the level the belief was formed. We find where not enough was learned — not to analyze it, but to work with the emotional memory directly. We create experiences that give your nervous system information it has never had about your worth, and we work with the parts of you still carrying the shame. When the original learning updates, self-doubt doesn't need daily rebuttal. It stops generating.

Not confidence built on top of the belief. The belief, gone.

This works best if:

  • The self-doubt has survived every achievement so far.
  • You're tired of affirmations and evidence-lists that don't stick.
  • You can build a case against yourself faster than anyone can dismantle it.
  • You want the belief updated, not argued with daily.

This may not be right if:

  • You want confidence techniques and pep talks.
  • You're looking for quick reassurance rather than root work.
  • You're not ready to look at where the belief was learned.

FAQ

Is imposter syndrome treatable, or just something to manage?

Treatable. Imposter feelings are usually a specific learned belief about conditional worth — and learned beliefs can be updated through memory reconsolidation. Managing is what you do until then.

I'm successful. Isn't therapy for people with bigger problems?

Chronic self-doubt that survives every success is a real problem — it just hides well. It's also one of the most workable things I see.
